About Fort Square Presbyterian

Fort Square Presbyterian Church is built upon a foundation of relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, faithfulness to studying, preaching and teaching from God's Word, unceasing and faithful prayer, and a commitment to being a caring church by meeting the needs of people both within our congregation and through global and local outreach and missions.

Fort Square is part of the Boston Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA).  We are among those who have signed the "Declaration of Faith" as we seek renewal of Biblical theology in our denomination.  The PCUSA church comes out of a long heritage that originates in the Protestant Reformation with the teaching of Martin Luther and John Calvin.  Luther's emphasis on justification by grace through faith alone has always been a foundation of Presbyterian teaching.  In addition, the Presbyterian Church has long emphasized the uniqueness of the Scriptures as the sole authority in the church and for our faith.

Fort Square was founded in 1896 and one year later moved to its current location in the city of Quincy, Massachusetts.  Quincy is located just south of Boston, and with more than 90,000 residents is the most populous city in the South Shore region of the state. As the birthplace of the second President, John Adams, and the sixth President, John Quincy Adams, as well as legendary patriot John Hancock, Quincy is known as  the "City of Presidents" and "Birthplace of the American Dream."

In 2009, Fort Square conducted a comprehensive study of the mission of our church.  The results of that three-month effort are found in the following report: FortSquareMissionStudy.pdf
